Rev Rev Rev

Rev Rev Rev are an Italian group from Modena whose music sits between shoegaze, garage rock and heavy psych, with further links to psychedelic rock, noise rock and noise pop. Their sound draws on first-wave shoegaze and reworks it into a loud, fuzzy and woozy style. Their live performances also use kaleidoscopic video projections and self-constructed stomp boxes to create unusual sounds.

Releases and recording

The band releases its first self-titled album in 2013 and it receives positive attention, including a number 3 placing in the 2013 Shoegazer Alive Top 10. A digital single, “Catching a buzz”, follows in October 2014 through WinWin Records and appears on Steve Lamacq’s BBC 6 Music show. Their second LP, Des fleurs magiques bourdonnaient, takes its title from a quote in Arthur Rimbaud’s Illuminations and appears in 2016 on Kinotone Records in Europe and the UK, with Custom Made Music and Northern Light Records handling North America. The video for its first single, “Nightwine”, premieres on Clash Music Magazine. A CD repress of the album later appears on Neon Sigh after the original edition sells out.

Touring and recognition

Since September 2013, Rev Rev Rev tour across continental Europe and the UK. The band receives a nomination for best self-produced album from PIMI, the Premio Italiano Musica Indipendente. In January 2015, 200 Italian art directors name their live set among the best live shows around.

Compilations and collaborations

A track from their first album appears on Revolution – the shoegaze revival, a compilation released by Ear to Ear Records and Gerpfast Collective and supported by Joe Foster, co-founder of Creation Records, alongside Graham Bonnar of Swervedriver and Brian Jonestown Massacre. In March 2015, Rev Rev Rev contribute a cover of “Polar bear” to TBTCI Records’ Ride tribute compilation Leave them all behind. They also play Cosmosis Festival 2016 in Manchester, alongside acts including The Jesus and Mary Chain, Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Raveonettes, of Montreal, Wire and Sleaford Mods.
