Retriever
Retriever are a group from Newcastle, active since their first gig in July 2009. Their sound is built from thick fuzz bass, jagged reverb-heavy guitar, cutting drum-machine beats and screeching feedback, with bitter female vocals over the top. They are associated with hardcore, shoegaze, garage, post-punk and indie.
The band gains notice through support slots with The Slits, These New Puritans, Dum Dum Girls and Hatcham Social, among others. They also play the Evolution, Middlesbrough Music Live and Tramlines festivals. Commentary on the band describes their music as loud, dark and brooding, with references to distorted guitars, intense vocals and an uncompromising approach.
