Remi Kolawole

Remi is a Melbourne lyricist, singer and rapper. He combines rapping and singing, and his music uses a mix of styles including hip-hop, R&B and more self-contained, genre-crossing material. His lyrics are often self-referential and include pop-culture references, with themes that move between fantasy and everyday life.

Early releases and debut album

Remi releases two EPs in 2011, Childish and Five Beats I Love. In 2012 he issues his debut album, Regular People Sh#%t, produced entirely by the Melbourne duo J Smith & Dutch. The album includes a wide range of lyrical reference points, with nods to artists such as Slum Village, Drake, Black Thought and early Kanye West.

Recognition and live appearances

The single APE draws attention at Triple J, after which Remi becomes an Unearthed feature artist and the album is chosen as feature album on The Hip Hop Show. He also supports Danny Brown, MED, N'fa Jones, M.A.F.I.A and Jade McRae, and performs at the 2012 Song Summit in Sydney alongside other members of RunForYourLife.
