Region

Region is a group from Wilmington, Delaware, in the United States. It is the project of producer Daniel López, who is based in Ecuador. The act begins with electronic experiments that bring together sampling and ambient textures, and it develops from material created as a live set using controllers and software.

Early releases and style

Region first appears in 2014 with a handful of tracks. Its debut work, Dawn, leans towards downtempo and drum machine patterns, with synthesiser sounds described as carrying a feeling of hope amid decay. The project works across ambient, IDM, chillwave, hardcore, and Japanese-related tag associations, while its sound also uses pulses, breaks, and abstract structures.

Further work

Quierde, released in 2019, contains eight tracks and is presented as the more mixable of Region’s releases, suited to DJ and hybrid settings. Its rhythmic approach moves between four-on-the-floor patterns, breaks, and abstract passages. The music draws on Andean and vernacular sources from the south, reshaped through degradation, FM synthesis, and randomness generated in the live setup.
