Red Priest

Red Priest is a British early music group active since 1997. It is named after Antonio Vivaldi, the “flame-haired priest”, and is known for baroque performance that combines research-based interpretation with re-composition, strong emotional expression and theatrical stage presentation.

The ensemble performs largely from memory, which allows a high degree of interaction and freedom on stage. Its programmes draw on a wide range of baroque sources and aim for varied colour and mood. The group is described by critics in terms such as “electrifying”, “sheer daring”, “immaculately forged”, “sonically supercharged”, “brilliant and inspired” and “deliciously twisted”.

Members

The listed members are Piers Adams, Julia Bishop, Angela East and David Wright. The line-up in the bio also includes guest violinist David Greenberg on a US tour. Adams plays recorders, Bishop violin, East cello and Howard Beach harpsichord.
