Red Leather
Red Leather is an anonymous American singer and songwriter from the United States, originally from Reno, Nevada and now based in Los Angeles. He works in a blend of country, alternative rock, rockabilly, rock, country rock and modern country, and his songs often draw on gambling addiction, faith, loss, addiction and redemption.
Identity and early activity
He appears publicly with a red fringed hat that covers his face, a look that supports his anonymous image and reflects a desire to distance himself from his past. He begins performing as a street musician on Hollywood Boulevard in 2021. His early period is marked by severe addiction, mental health struggles, a suicide attempt and a near-fatal overdose in Las Vegas.
Music and themes
His writing is direct and autobiographical, with emotionally charged storytelling and a deep, gravelly voice. The songs often focus on hardship and survival, and the music presents those experiences with a raw tone rather than a polished one.
Releases
His debut single is “The Only Time It Rains in Hollywood”, which comes out in 2022 and addresses homelessness and despair. He follows it with singles including “Sins”, “Deathwish” and “Poison”. His debut album, Reno, arrives in 2023 as a 14-track project shaped by his past and his recovery.
Audience and live work
His music gains attention on social media, particularly TikTok, where he has a large following, and his streaming figures grow across platforms. He also mounts the “Burn In Hell” tour, with dates in Los Angeles, Austin, Reno and Las Vegas.
