Real People

Real People is a group from Hollywood. The name is used by several different acts, including a punk band from Hollywood, Florida; a solo electronic project by Zach Condon of Beirut, recorded under the name when he was 15 and made in response to his interest in The Magnetic Fields; a contemporary modern jazz band; and a folk-punk band from Buffalo, New York.

The jazz line-up is Anders Mogensen on drums, Rudresh Mahanthappa on alto saxophone, Kasper Tranberg on trumpet, Jacob Anderskov on piano, and Carlo DeRosa on bass. That group releases on Black Out Music, with a release in 2008 noted as its latest. The folk-punk version of the name issues a split with Arctic Death and a free download of the Dead Weight EP.

The punk version is associated with a Bandcamp release, while the Buffalo folk-punk group is also linked to a Myspace page and free-download distribution. The shared name therefore covers several separate projects across punk, folk-punk, electronic music and modern jazz.
