Rats On Rafts
Rats On Rafts are a Dutch post-punk group from Rotterdam. They form in 2005 and operate as a seven-member band including Mathijs Burgler, David Fagan, Doortje Hiddema, Arnoud Verheul, Natasha van Waardenburg, Joris Frowein and Florian Veenhuis. Their sound is often described as a blend of post-punk and modern lo-fi.
Releases and labels
The band releases a 7-inch single, The Moneyman, in 2010. The record is a cover of the Dutch electro pioneers KIEM. After the single is well received by Dutch critics, they sign to Subroutine Records for their debut LP. In September 2011 they release The Moon Is Big on vinyl, and later the album is reissued on CD through Dutch hip hop label Top Notch.
Reception and activity
The Moon Is Big draws strong reviews in magazines and newspapers in the Netherlands and leads to appearances on Dutch national television. The group also tours the UK in January 2012 as support for Minny Pops. In the Netherlands, Rats On Rafts also draw controversy on national television and radio because of their openly critical manner.
