Raquel Rodriguez

Raquel Rodriguez is a United States singer associated with soul, funk, jazz and neo soul. She builds her work around influences from Etta James, Amy Winehouse and Adele, and develops her reputation in the Los Angeles jazz scene.

Training and background

Rodriguez studies at USC’s Thornton School of Music after entering the school’s jazz studies programme in 2009. She previously attends Hamilton High School Academy of Music in Los Angeles. Her degree course is in Music Industry, with a minor in Jazz Studies.

Live work and band

She performs with a nine-piece backing band made up largely of classmates from Thornton’s Jazz Studies department. The group forms around two years before the account describes them and appears at venues including the Roxy and the House of Blues in Southern California. They also open for J. Cole and Big Sean at the A.S.I. Hip-Hop and Comedy Fest hosted by CSU-Los Angeles.

Recordings

Rodriguez releases an eponymous EP in early 2012. Her full-length album Miss Me follows in June 2013 and marks a more soulful direction in her music. The recordings feature original material written by Rodriguez herself.
