Rancor

Rancor is a Dutch metalcore band that forms in 1995 and begins as a three-piece line-up with Pascal on vocals, Fabrice on bass and Michel (Bloodsport) on guitar. When no suitable drummer is available in the MOC area, the group uses a drum computer and synthesiser instead, giving its early material a sound that combines Cleveland hardcore, metal, precise programmed rhythms and atmospheric textures.

Early activity

The band debuts at the Geleen hardcore festival and then plays several shows alongside groups including Integrity and Ringworm. It also records and releases a mini-CD called Distinguish on Life Force Records. After about a year, the group splits up because of members’ changing interests.

Reunion and later line-up changes

In 2005, Pascal contacts Fabrice and Michel about reunion shows. Rehearsals begin in March and the first reunion performances follow in July. The shows are well received and lead the band to continue. Kristof (Chimaera) joins on guitar, and the band later replaces the drum computer and synthesiser with Bert (Ashlar) on drums. Frank (Ashlar) then replaces Fabrice on bass, completing a new line-up with a more forceful sound and greater drive.
