Ramzi
Ramzi is an electronic music project by Phoebé Guillemot, based in Montréal, Quebec. The project works with hybrid forms of electronic music, drawing on experimental pop, ambient textures, and rhythmic styles that range across dancehall, jungle and other club-derived forms. Its sound also incorporates heavily filtered samples, inverted rhythms, distorted atmospheres, melodic repetitions and field recordings.
Music and style
The project presents a dense, highly rhythmic style that often combines detailed beats with layered, surreal sound design. Its tracks move between energetic, fractured sequences and more restrained atmospheric passages, while keeping a cluttered and unsettled character. The music is described through contrasting ideas of utopian and dystopian space, with a strongly imagined sci-fi setting.
Releases
Ramzi’s work includes BÉBiTES and Houti Kush. Houti Kush follows the more frenetic and maximalist approach of BÉBiTES with a set of pieces that focus on warmer but unfamiliar atmospheres and a more contained rhythmic approach, while still retaining the same layered and disorientating style.
