Rampage

Rampage is a group from Augusta, United States, active from 1989 to the present. The name is used by several different acts, covering hardcore punk, hip-hop, rap, thrash metal and black metal-related material, with the Augusta group identified as a black metal act from the USA.

Hip-hop and rap

One Rampage is known as Rampage the Last Boy Scout, also called “The 1st Lieutenant” and “The Last Boyscout” of the FlipMode Squad. This project is part of a rap collective that includes Rah Digga, Spliff Star and Baby Sham. Members of that circle appear on Busta Rhymes’ first solo album, The Coming. After the success of that release, Rampage receives a solo deal and issues the album Scouts Honor, By Way Of Blood, which is certified gold. The album includes the singles “Wild for the Night” and “Take it to the Streets”.

Rampage is also credited with writing a number of charting tracks, including “Woo-Hah”, “Wild For The Night”, “Flava In Your Ear Remix” and “I Know What You Want”. Over the years, Rampage works with artists including Alicia Keys, LL Cool J and Notorious B.I.G. Rampage also serves as CEO of Deep Freeze Entertainment and has a label arrangement with Gracie Productions, which signs artists such as Royce Da 5’9, Joe Budden, Crooked I, DJ Premier and Charlie Baltimore. A reality series called Ramp’s World is mentioned as being in pre-production.

Hardcore and punk

Another Rampage is a hardcore band from Rhode Island. This group releases a 7-inch single and an LP on Lockin’ Out Records.

Jungle and electronic

Rampage is also used by a duo consisting of Matt Fletcher and Mike Anthony. They release the Priority One EP in 1995 on Almo Sounds. Its track “The Godfather” becomes especially well known in the UK jungle scene.

Metal and hard rock

Other acts called Rampage include a hard rock band formed in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 1988. This lineup features Olof Lindgren on vocals, Jörgen Svensson on guitar, Mikael Larsson on bass and Roger Christiansson on drums, with guitarist Peter Espinoza also briefly joining. The band is influenced by Van Halen and Dokken, and one song from its six-track 1989 demo appears on the Various - Rockbox compilation in 1989.

A separate heavy metal band called Rampage forms in Hamburg, Germany, in 1980 and includes future Helloween and Gamma Ray members. There is also a hard rock band from Frankenthal, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, under the same name.
