Ramesses
Ramesses is a British sludge and doom metal group active from 2003 to 2013. It forms in Dorset, England, and includes Tim Bagshaw, Mark Greening and Adam Richardson. Bagshaw and Greening come from Electric Wizard, while Richardson has played in Lord of Putrefaction, Spirmyard and Hexed.
Style and formation
The band forms in February 2003. Its sound combines sludge, doom and blackened doom, with heavy riffing, forceful drumming, harsh vocals and a method built around freeform psychedelic jam sessions. The group is associated with the UK sludge, doom, stoner metal and blackened doom scene.
Releases and activity
Ramesses releases a third full-length album, Possessed by the Rise of Magick, in 2011. It follows with the studio/live EP Chrome Pineal, which includes three new studio tracks and three live tracks recorded in 2007.
Line-up changes and later projects
Tim Bagshaw leaves the band in 2012 and moves to the United States, where he forms the sludge/doom group Serpentine Path with the members of Unearthly Trance. Mike Vest of Bong fills in on guitar for live performances. Mark Greening also leaves in 2012 and later rejoins Electric Wizard. In 2013 the band announces an hibernation. Adam Richardson works on the project 11Paranoias with Mike Vest, and Greening is also a former member of that project.
