Rain Machine
Rain Machine is the solo project of Kyp Malone, who is also a guitarist and vocalist in TV on the Radio and Iran. Malone begins writing and recording songs alone after moving to New York City in 2000, first out of necessity and later by choice, as he values the freedom of working by himself.
Before adopting the Rain Machine name, he performs under the name Black Lights, but changes it after learning that the name is already in use. He then uses his own name for a time before settling on Rain Machine, saying that he dislikes how his own name appears on T-shirts and flyers.
The project is described as covering a wide range of audible frequencies and reflecting emotions and situations that are both real and imagined, with a mix of rhythm and rhyme. It sits within experimental, indie and singer-songwriter territory.
