Ragga Twins

Ragga Twins are a U.K. dance music act formed by the Destouche brothers, Trevor Destouche and David Destouche, who perform as Flinty Badman and Deman Rocker. They begin as MCs with North London’s Unity sound system and start using the Ragga Twins name in 1989.

Early releases and Shut Up & Dance

Through 1992, they release a series of 12-inch singles on the Ragga Twins label, with production by Shut Up & Dance. During this period they also issue the album Reggae Owes Me Money in 1991. This work includes tracks such as “Illegal Gunshot” and “Spliffhead”, and they also appear on Shut Up & Dance’s “Lamborghini”. Their early recordings combine dancehall, hip-hop and jungle, and play an important part in the development of U.K. dance music.

Later work

In 1995 they return on EMI with singles produced by Us3, including “Freedom Train” and “Money”, and release a second album, Rinsin Lyrics. Additional singles appear in the early 2000s. In 2008, Soul Jazz compiles Ragga Twins Step Out, a collection focused on their Shut Up & Dance recordings.
