Radikal Guru
Radikal Guru is the recording name of Mateusz Miller, a producer and DJ from northern Poland who is based in Cork, Ireland. He works in dubstep, dub, reggae, UK dub and breaks, and his sound combines roots reggae with dubstep.
Background and development
He starts making music in 2004, initially working with trip-hop, electronica and jungle. He develops his style by experimenting with ethnic sounds from the Middle East and India. After moving from Poland to Ireland, he expands his interest in dub music and its subgenres, including dubstep.
Releases and collaborations
In 2005 he puts together a demo album called The East-West Connection, which circulates online. In October 2008 he signs a record deal with Z-Audio and also releases material on Dubbed Out Records. His first promo release is a dubstep remix of Max Romeo’s Chase the Devil, which gains a strong response from listeners.
Style and influences
His music is strongly shaped by dub pioneers including King Tubby, Scientist and Lee “Scratch” Perry. He is described as bringing heavy dubstep rhythms together with roots reggae and dub influences.
