Rackitt

Rackitt is a London-based DJ and producer associated with hard techno and acid techno. Her artist name comes from the idea of a “rackett” or racket: a confused din, clamour, or frolic, with the name also playing on the tennis term.

Early involvement in the scene

She develops an interest in acid house in the late 1980s and soon begins learning to DJ. Her first gigs take place in 1996 on the free party scene, with support from Acid Techno figures Aaron and Chris Liberator, who introduce her to the Immersion sound system crew.

She then plays on other sound systems including Virus and Bedlam, before joining the London squat party collectives Underground Sound, Restless Natives and Manik. Her work across these scenes helps establish her reputation as a versatile DJ.

Style and performances

Rackitt’s style is described as hard-edged techno and acid techno. She performs at clubs, festivals and teknivals across the UK, and also plays overseas in Europe, Asia, North America and South America.

Studio work and releases

In the studio, she records tracks for the imprints Maximum Minimum, RAW and Pure Noise. She also remixes acid techno tracks, including D.A.V.E. The Drummer’s “Build Up The Pressure”.

Other work and projects

Alongside DJing and writing music, Rackitt writes a review column for Bubble Jam, an underground London magazine. She also starts the female DJ agency Vinyl Vixens, co-run with Gizelle, Sarah F.A.B and Lucy-Lastics, with a focus on representing female techno artists from London.

She is the booking agent for the Stay Up Forever DJ Agency and works at kinetec record shop in London’s West End. She also has plans to set up her own record label and to write tracks with DJs and producers including Ant, Gizelle, Sarah F.A.B, Chris Liberator, Guy “Geezer” McAffer, Darc Marc and Lucy-Lastics.
