Rachel K Collier

Rachel K Collier is a singer and songwriter from Swansea, United Kingdom. Born in 1989, she grows up in a musical environment, singing in a choir, writing songs on piano and experimenting with layered vocals using her father’s old double cassette tape player. She also develops an interest in dance music after learning to programme beats on a Yamaha DJX keyboard and through an early interest in club culture.

Training and early development

In 2006, Collier moves to Cardiff and spends four years studying Creative Music Technology at the Royal Welsh College of Music. During this period, she makes music, beats, sound effects and sound designs. She is a self-taught pianist, takes grade 8 piano while at college, and funds her studies by teaching piano to others.

Career

Collier later moves to London to continue her music career, where she writes for other artists as well as developing her own sound. Her writing credits include work for Groove Addix, Defected Records, Netsky, Mutated Forms, Wookie, Lung, Ray Foxx, Mat Zo, Anjuna Beats, Blokhe4d, Hospital Records, Med School Records and Team Saatchi. After producing two demos for Team Saatchi, her performance of Jimmy Cliff’s “Hard Road To Travel” features in a national television advertising campaign.

She also features on Wookie’s track “2 Us”, and provides vocals for tracks by Lung released on Med School, the sister label of Hospital Records.
