Quiet Rebellion

Quiet Rebellion is a German heavy metal and power metal group active since 2001. It is a project of Shaun T Hunter, who records and produces the music himself.

Recording and sound

On the album Still Talking Scribble, Hunter records in a range of unusual locations, including a reputedly haunted industrial mill. The album also includes a spontaneous reinterpretation of Bruce Springsteen’s Dancing in the Dark as a bonus track, titled rooms with a view. Hunter plays all the instruments on the record, using only what is available to him.

The project’s later approach grows out of the loss of earlier band members who had appeared on the house-concert release Thinnest Hopes Magnified, issued in autumn 2009. Hunter develops a solo method based on textures and rhythms created with himself and a loop pedal.

Presentation and artwork

Hunter also makes each CD cover individually. The sleeve design includes a commissioned artwork by local artist Damian Clark, which he passes through colour filters so that each copy becomes a unique piece. He describes this process as “Ethereal D.I.Y.” and characterises the music as a blend of two very different genres with a “dreamesque spectral” quality.
