Quantic is the performing name of William Holland, a UK-born producer, musician and DJ from Bewdley and Bogotá. His work spans downtempo, electronic, chillout, nu jazz, funk, bossa nova, contemporary jazz, cumbia, electronica and related Latin-influenced styles.
Career
Holland develops Quantic as an umbrella project across a number of separate musical identities and groups. He releases and performs under Quantic, and also works with Capstone, The Quantic Soul Orchestra and Quantic and his Combo Bárbaro. His output includes more than ten full-length albums, issued internationally through Tru Thoughts and Selva.
Over the course of his career, he moves between DJ, producer and remixer roles, with a sound rooted in funk and jazz but extending into electronic, folk, Latin, reggae, dub and cumbia. He is based in Cali, Colombia from 2007, where he focuses on cumbias, salsa and Afro-Colombian music through a beat-led electronic and funk approach.
Projects and collaborations
The Quantic Soul Orchestra is his full-band soul project. Flowering Inferno is his Latin-tinged, reggae and dub direction. Quantic y Su Combo Bárbaro is his live band project, built with an international line-up that includes salsa pianist Alfredo Linares and Pacific folklore singer Nidia Góngora. Holland also works with artists and producers associated with contemporary Latin American music.
Style
His music combines dancefloor-oriented production with live instrumentation and draws on a wide range of regional and genre influences. Across his projects, he aims to make music that encourages listeners to explore styles and scenes outside their usual listening habits.
