Quadron

Quadron is a Copenhagen, Denmark-based group formed in 2009. It consists of vocalist Coco O and producer and multi-instrumentalist Robin Hannibal. The pair also work within the Denmark-based Boom Clap Bachelors collective, and Quadron remains active.

Background and membership

Robin Hannibal is also known as Robin Braun. Coco O is also credited as Coco Malaika, and Robin Hannibal is also identified as one half of Owusu & Hannibal. Before Quadron, Coco sings backing vocals for Danish soul artist Karen, while Robin works with Nobody Beats The Beats, Clemens, Jokeren and L.O.C., and also on his own projects Owusu & Hannibal and Parallel Dance Ensemble.

Releases and notable work

Quadron begins issuing collaborations in 2009, led by the track “Slippin,” a soul-influenced song used in the film Se Min Kjole. Their self-titled debut album appears in 2010 and is released for wider circulation by Plug Research. Another early track, “Day,” draws attention outside Denmark when Gilles Peterson includes it in the year-end All Winners special of his Worldwide programme.

The duo later records a cover of Michael Jackson’s “Baby Be Mine,” which appears on the soundtrack to Think Like a Man. Their second album, Avalanche, is released in 2013 on Vested in Culture, a label associated with Epic.

Collaborations and related work

After Quadron’s first album, the pair are sought out by other artists for collaborations, including Leon Ware, the Internet and Tyler, The Creator. In 2013, Robin Hannibal makes an album with Mike Milosh as Rhye, while Coco O appears on the soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby.
