Qlowski
Qlowski is a post-punk group active since 2015, based in Italy and the United Kingdom. The line-up includes Michele Tellarini, Cecilia Corapi, Davide Rossi and Francesco Salomone, with Cecilia Corapi listed as a member.
Style and sound
Their music sits within new wave, post-punk and punk, and is also associated with indie rock, art punk, crank wave and post-brexit new wave. Their early work is described as combining post-punk feeling with propulsive rhythms, a modern take on kiwi-pop, and elements of dark punk, noise rock and flower pop. Later material is marked by low, rumbling bass, circular patterns, feedback and a tense, restless quality.
Releases and recording
The group’s first tape appears in 2016 and is noted for being included in Bandcamp’s end-of-year selections. They also record an EP at Strange City Studios with Jonathan Clancy, and that release is mastered by Mikey Young of Total Control. The songs are described as tightly written, with trading vocals from Michele Tellarini and Cecilia Corapi, and with guitar, bass and feedback working in shifting, intertwined patterns.
Musical references
Comparisons made around the group include Television Personalities, The Clean, Killing Joke, Australian punk and the production style associated with Hannett. Their writing is presented as balancing light and dark, with touches of twee and death-rock alongside sharp, restless post-punk.
