Pynch
Pynch is a London-based group playing dream pop, new wave and post-punk revival with indie rock, electronic and krautrock influences. The project begins as a set of demos written and recorded by Spencer Enock in his parents’ basement in Ramsgate. Those early recordings attract attention from BBC Radio DJ Abbie McCarthy, who praises their lo-fi sound, and they are played on BBC Introducing and BBC Radio 6.
Formation and members
After moving to London to study music, Enock meets Julianna Hopkins and James Rees, and Pynch develops as both a live act and a recording project. Spencer’s brother Scott later joins on bass.
Releases and activity
The band’s debut single, Disco Lights, is released on Speedy Wunderground in 2019 and receives positive coverage from The Guardian, Clash Magazine and The Line of Best Fit. Pynch then tours with The Libertines in the UK, including dates in Glasgow, Nottingham and Margate. In 2020, the group releases Somebody Else, produced by Enock in the same basement where the project starts, and follows it with The Whole Word's Going Crazy (For Love). In 2023, Pynch releases its debut album Howling at a Concrete Moon.
Later work
Pynch also releases the album Beautiful Noise.
