Py is a Swedish singer-songwriter and electronic artist, also associated with house and indie music. The artist is Jade Pybus, who records as Py and is linked with the acts NQB and Py & The Gang.

Career

Py emerges in 2012 as one of the more notable new acts of the year, with a voice described as central to the music rather than added on top of it. The project works with a group of producers including Breton, Lapalux, George Fitzgerald, Raffertie and Greenwood Sharps, and also with Caspar Kedros, who helps mix the collection of tracks.

The release Tripping On Wisdom presents a mix of songs and collaborations shaped from the singer’s perspective. It combines different genres and is built around themes of memory, nostalgia, leaving one place, and moving into another. The recording is issued on cassette and as a digital download.

Recording style

Tripping On Wisdom is mixed and mastered by Py with help from Caspar Kedros. It uses field recordings made in Brighton and London to connect the tracks and trace a move from Brighton to London, where work with the listed producers begins. Analogue tape interludes are created by Signal to Noise with Py, using collages of audio material recorded onto magnetic tape and then played back and manipulated alongside vocals and other instrumentation through a custom-designed interface.
