Pure Hell

Pure Hell is a punk band from Philadelphia, United States, active from 1974 to the present. The group is recognised as the first all-Black punk and afropunk band, and it emerges during the period when punk culture is developing in New York City, London and Los Angeles.

History and style

The band forms in Philadelphia in 1974 and is associated with punk and punk rock. It is described as part of the post-garage, acid rock and glam-theatre era of the late 1960s and early 1970s, and is grouped with early punk acts such as the Sex Pistols, Dead Boys, The Germs and the MC5.

Recordings

Pure Hell has limited commercial success and issues only one single, These Boots are Made for Walking backed with No Rules. It also records one album, Noise Addiction, which remains unreleased for 28 years.
