Public Domain

Public Domain is a Scottish trance group from Ayr, active from 2000 to the present. It is formed by James Allan, Mark Sherry and Alistair MacIsaac, with later membership including Mallorca Lee, David Forbes and Neil Skinner, also known as MC Cyclone. The group is associated with trance and hard dance, and its name reflects an early intention for its music to be released under a public domain licence.

Career

Public Domain gains international attention with the single Operation Blade, which reaches number five on the UK singles chart and goes platinum in Australia. After the track is signed to Slinky, Mallorca Lee joins as a frontman. Around this period, Mallorca Lee and David Forbes pause a separate project to contribute to the album Hardhop Superstars. Following a world tour in 2001 and 2002, Lee and Forbes return to solo work.

Later activity

Neil Skinner, a longtime friend known for work with Dyewitness, later joins the group. Public Domain continues to tour and record new material, with appearances including a tour in Japan and a performance at Coloursfest in Scotland. The current lineup includes James Allan, Mark Sherry and Neil Skinner.
