Psychemagik

Psychemagik is a UK DJ and producer duo made up of Tom Coveney and Danny McLewin. The act works in deep house, electronica and nu disco, and also has a strong association with psychedelic and balearic-influenced dance music. It is based in the United Kingdom.

Early releases and edits

The duo debuts with the 12-inch Running To My Life in 2009. In 2010, it releases an edit of Fleetwood Mac’s Everywhere, which helps establish its reputation in disco circles. It later follows this with a version of Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams, which reaches the top of the Hype Machine charts.

Remixes, originals and compilations

Psychemagik releases a steady run of edits, original productions and remixes. Its remix work includes tracks for Azari & III, Metronomy, Kraak and Smaak, Crystal Fighters, Yacht, Time and Space Machine, The Egg, Skinny Lister and The Cuban Brothers. Its studio output also includes the single Valley Of Paradise, the first single from its debut album, and the compilation Psychemagik Presents: Magik Cyrkles on Leng Records.

DJ work and reputation

The duo regularly plays festivals, clubs and special events across the UK and Europe, and also undertakes touring in the USA and Australia. It is known for large record collections, for sourcing rare records, and for mixtapes and guest mixes that range from dancefloor-focused sets to more psychedelic selections. Its records are used by artists including 2 Many DJs/Soulwax, Chemical Brothers, Q-Tip and Fake Blood.

Critical response

Psychemagik receives attention from magazines and DJs for its edits, production work and mixing style, and its compilation Magik Cyrkles sells out on vinyl within 48 hours and reaches number one in the Juno bestsellers chart on CD.
