Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are a psychedelic rock group from Perth, Australia, formed in 2014. Their music is described in broad terms as psychedelic rock, with tags that also include garage rock, stoner rock, grunge and heavy psych. The band is active from 2014 to the present.

Line-up

The group includes Jack McEwan, Wayan Biliondana, Danny Caddy, Luke Reynolds, Luke Parish, Jamie Reynolds and Chris Young. In the early line-up, Jack McEwan performs vocals and guitar, Luke Parish plays guitar, Danny Caddy plays drums, Luke Reynolds plays bass, and Chris Young handles keyboard parts when needed. Peter Coyne also appears as a back-up drummer.

Formation and early identity

The band begins playing together in an old horse barn in rural Leederville. Their name is chosen at random because they think it is amusing, and they give little explanation for it. The word “crumpet” refers to a traditional English food, which is noted as a point of curiosity around the name.

Jack McEwan and the band’s sound

Jack McEwan is the group’s vocalist, main songwriter and the figure credited as the main pioneer behind the band. He grows up in England, starts playing in bands from the age of nine, and moves to Australia at the age of thirteen. He also has a degree in graphic design, which he uses to create the band’s artwork. The band describes its sound as “an energetic mess of colour and tone”.

Other members

Luke Parish is the lead guitarist. He is also a semi-professional skater sponsored by Soggy Bones and moves into skating from surfing. He names David Gilmour of Pink Floyd as his biggest guitar influence. Danny Caddy is the drummer and had played with Jack McEwan in a previous band before Psychedelic Porn Crumpets form. Luke Reynolds plays bass, while Chris Young covers guitar and keyboard parts on songs that need them.

Jack McEwan says the idea for a record label exists since the band’s formation and that its creation is only a matter of time.
