PRUNK
PRUNK is a Dutch DJ and producer associated with deep house, house, electronic music and UK garage. He develops an established sound that is described as deep, jacking and upbeat, and his sets often include vocals. He grows up with deep house around him and begins producing after developing a strong interest in the style as a teenager.
Early interest and first releases
He says that one of his earliest and most memorable links to house music is receiving an Ian Pooley record from his older brother on his 11th birthday. By the age of 16, he is increasingly drawn to deeper and jackin’ sounds, with Mark Farina among his early favourites. He also continues searching for deeper and stronger beats in the international house scene, and soon starts making his own productions.
His first remix is of The Stafford Brothers’ track I Can See. A week after he finishes it, Belgian Hed Kandi DJ Tom De Neef plays it on his radio show.
Labels, radio and collaborations
PRUNK releases music on King Street Sounds, Soweso, Electronique and Midnight Love Club. He also issues a four-track EP on Electronique UK with remixes by Pammin and Havens. Another release is a joint EP with PONY titled Loving me on Electronique.
From December 2012, he hosts a show focused on the new UK sound and has guest appearances from Jordan Peak, Genius Of Time, Dale Howard and Jay Tripwire. In collaboration with Deep House Amsterdam, he starts the label Double Tree Records. The label plans releases including an EP with remixes from Satin Jackets and Roland Nights, and it gains support from artists including MANIK, Thugf*ckers, Blond:ish, Finnebassen, Perseus and Moonboots.
DJ work and festival appearances
PRUNK is active on the club and festival circuit in the Netherlands and appears at major events such as Welcome to the Future, Open Air Festival and Awakenings. He also performs at several events during ADE 2013 and is one of the headliners for Straf_werk’s closing weekend. Outside the Netherlands, he plays in Russia, including clubs in Moscow, Tyumen and Yaroslavl, as well as venues near the Black Sea.
