Prosperina

Prosperina are a Swansea-based rock group with a line-up centred on Gethin Woolcock. They work in alternative rock, grunge, post-rock, progressive rock and stoner rock, and are also associated with metal and psychedelic rock.

Style and influences

The band builds songs as a power trio, combining technical complexity with clear, melodic hooks. Their sound draws on classic hard and progressive rock as well as heavier modern bands, with references to Pink Floyd, Kyuss and Soundgarden alongside Tool, Isis and Mastodon. Their music is arranged with a broad, cinematic feel, and it shifts between restrained passages and heavy, crushing sections.

Recording and releases

The debut album, Faith In Sleep, is largely self-produced and is noted for its large, polished production and the strength of its songwriting. The record presents the band’s approach as a blend of pop structure, progressive detail and doom and drone elements, turned into a form that remains accessible while still sounding credible and weighty.

Live work

Prosperina also develop their live reputation through support slots with Oceansize and Taint, which help establish their performance style and add to their experience on stage.
