Propagandhi
Propagandhi are a punk rock band from Portage la Prairie, Canada, active since 1986 and later based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Their sound sits across punk, punk rock, hardcore punk, melodic hardcore, anarcho-punk and skate punk. The group’s line-up includes Chris Hannah, Jord Samolesky, Todd Kowalski and Sulynn Hago, with former members Scott Hopper, Mike Braumeister, John K. Samson and David Guillas.
Politics and lyrics
The band is closely associated with left-wing politics and veganism, and its lyrics take a direct stance against human rights violations, sexism, racism, nationalism, homophobia, capitalism and religion. That political focus is a defining part of the group’s identity as well as its music.
Line-up and roles
Chris Hannah plays vocals and guitar and has been with the band since 1986. Jord Samolesky plays drums and is also a founding member. Todd Kowalski joins on bass and vocals from 1997 onward, while Sulynn Hago plays guitar and vocals from 2015 onward. Earlier members include Scott Hopper on bass and vocals from 1986 to 1989, Mike Braumeister on bass from 1989 to 1991, John K. Samson on bass and vocals from 1991 to 1997, and David Guillas on guitar and vocals from 2006 to 2015.
