Primevil
Primevil is a hard rock and psychedelic rock band from near Indianapolis, Indiana. The group records its only release in 1974 at Moe Whittemore’s 700 West studio in Indiana.
Recording and release
The band’s sole record is Smokin’ Bats at Campton's, a heavy rock release associated with the Midwest underground. It develops a sound that combines heavy riffing with the twin-guitar work of Jay Wilfong and Larry Lucas. Their interplay is especially noted on “Hey, Lover”, which is said to be written and recorded in one night at Whittemore’s New Palestine studio.
Reputation and collecting
The record becomes a sought-after item among collectors of psych and heavy rock. It is described as relatively rare, with copies once reported to have circulated in large quantities, including through thrift stores, and it is now valued at around $100 among collectors.
