Powerdove

Powerdove is an Oakland, United States group active since 2008, built around the songs of Annie Lewandowski. Lewandowski, who is from Minnesota and lives in Ithaca, New York, writes and records under the Powerdove name. The project includes John Dieterich, Annie Lewandowski, Jason Hoopes and Alex Vittum.

Background

Lewandowski starts out in the Midwest and first records with her band Emma Zunz, whose self-titled debut appears in 2006. She also records with Hawnay Troof, The Curtains and Xiu Xiu, and tours the United States and the United Kingdom with The Curtains in 2006. While living in the Bay Area, she performs in the band Okay.

Recording and collaborations

Powerdove records its debut album with Jason Hoopes and Alex Vittum at Mills College Concert Hall on Valentine’s Day 2009. Lewandowski also works as an improviser on piano and accordion, recording with Doublends Vert, Caroline Kraabel and the London Improviser’s Orchestra. Her performance collaborations include Fred Frith, Sylvia Hallett, William Ryan Fritch, Jennifer Wilsey, Zeina Nasr, Jason E. Anderson, Gregory Reynolds, Gust Burns, Cristin Miller, Jennifer Pike, John Edwards, John Butcher, Luigi Marino, Chris Cutler and Charles Hayward.
