Post Malone
Post Malone is the professional name of Austin Richard Post, an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer and actor from Syracuse, United States. He begins recording and releasing music in 2011 and takes his stage name from a rap name generator that uses his birth name.
His music combines hip hop, pop, R&B, trap and country, and his recorded work also sits across alternative R&B, cloud rap, contemporary R&B, country and pop rap. He is also associated with the group The Fools For You and with the label Posty Publishing.
Career
Post Malone first gains wide attention with the single “White Iverson” in 2015, which reaches number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. He later signs with Republic Records and releases his debut studio album, Stoney, in 2016. The album reaches number four on the Billboard 200 and includes “Congratulations”, featuring Quavo, which is certified diamond.
His second album, Beerbongs & Bentleys, arrives in 2018 and debuts at number one on the Billboard 200. It includes the number-one singles “Rockstar”, featuring 21 Savage, and “Psycho”, featuring Ty Dolla $ign, and receives a nomination for Album of the Year at the 61st Grammy Awards.
Also in 2018, he releases “Sunflower” with Swae Lee for the soundtrack of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The song becomes his third number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 and the highest-certified song in RIAA history, becoming the first to reach double diamond certification. It later appears on Hollywood’s Bleeding (2019), which tops the Billboard 200 and receives another Album of the Year Grammy nomination.
Hollywood’s Bleeding includes “Circles”, which becomes his fourth number-one hit and his longest-charting Hot 100 song. His later albums, Twelve Carat Toothache (2022) and Austin (2023), both peak at number two on the Billboard 200. Twelve Carat Toothache includes the top ten singles “I Like You (A Happier Song)”, featuring Doja Cat, and “One Right Now”, with The Weeknd, while Austin explores a pop rock sound and includes “Chemical”, which reaches the top 15.
In 2024 he releases “Fortnight” with Taylor Swift and “I Had Some Help” with Morgan Wallen, both of which debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. “I Had Some Help” is the lead single from F-1 Trillion, which continues his country direction and becomes his third non-consecutive number-one album on the Billboard 200.
Awards and records
Post Malone is among the best-selling music artists and sells over 80 million records. He receives eleven Billboard Music Awards, three American Music Awards, six MTV Video Music Awards and eighteen Grammy nominations. He also holds several Billboard chart records, including being the first solo artist to reach number one on both the Rap Airplay and Adult Contemporary charts. “Circles” sets the record for the longest climb to number one on the Adult Contemporary chart by a solo artist, and he holds the record for the most diamond-certified songs, with nine.
