Poseidon
Poseidon is an Argentine group associated with post-metal, dubstep, progressive metal, hardcore and sludge. The name refers to several different acts from different countries and styles, including bands from Germany, England, the United States, Australia, Russia and Brazil.
Associated acts under the name
One Poseidon is a German prog and krautrock band formed in 1974. It releases a single album, Found My Way, in 1975. The line-up consists of Horst Meinzer on vocals, bass and guitar, Tony Mahl on keyboards, Wilfried Sahm and Theo Metzler on guitar, and Rudi Metzler on drums. The album is reissued in 2001 with seven bonus tracks.
Another Poseidon is an English sludge, doom and post-metal band. A separate three-piece hardcore band also uses the name and is based in Bremerton, Washington.
There is also a grindcore and dubstep group from South Shields, England. It forms in late 2008 from the remains of the thrash metal band Screw, with guitarists Ryan “Rymond” Taylor and Dean “DeanMachine” Costello. Former Screw bassist Jordan “Elf” Newton also joins for a time. The group’s mascot is Skell Pirate, and it plans a reunion in 2013 to work on new dubstep, electro house and grindcore mixes.
In Australia, Poseidon is the dubstep alias of Paul van Nimwegen, originally a duo with Daniel Ovens. In Russia, POSEIDON forms in Stavropol in 2011 and begins with the singles “Portals” and “Lotuses burning in the fire of Hell”, before releasing the EP III in 2013 with a more post-metal and atmospheric direction, clean male vocals, orchestration and cinematic post-metal influences.
A further Poseidon is a heavy metal band from São Paulo, formed in 1992. It releases four studio albums, a live album, five demos and two singles. By the time of At Dream's Door in 2018, it is a power trio made up of Marco Alexandre on guitar, vocals and keyboards, Belmilson Santos on bass, and Marcelo Soto on drums. The album is based on Neil Gaiman’s Sandman.
