Portlights

Portlights are an indie band from the North Wales and Shropshire countryside. They are a four-piece formed by close friends, and their music centres on alternative indie songs with prominent guitar and drum parts.

Style and influences

The band’s sound combines vocal styles associated with David Bowie and Black Francis of Pixies with the instrumentation of early Radiohead. Their songs also draw on influences including Arcade Fire, The Joy Formidable and Two Door Cinema Club.

Performances and radio play

Portlights support acts including Miles Kane, The Automatic, The Boxer Rebellion, The Chapman Family and The Rifles. They also appear at festivals including BBC Big Weekend Fringe, Ozfest and What Fest. The band has Radio 1 interviews and plays with Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw, as well as BBC Radio live sessions and features on BBC Wales and BBC Shropshire.

Notable recognition

The Wrexham Leader describes their guitar sound in notably strong terms. Frontman David Schwarz also takes part in the BBC Introducing Musician’s Masterclass and visits Abbey Road and Maida Vale studios in London as part of that programme.
