Portland is the name used by several acts, including Spencer Lytle, an IDM producer who makes electronic music from computer-generated sounds and uses crackles, scrapes, clicks and washes as part of his compositions. His music is described as drawing on emotions such as love, sadness and anger.
Portland is also the name of a Belgian indie dreampop band based in Leuven. That group gains wider attention after winning Studio Brussels’ De Nieuwe Lichting contest in 2018. Its line-up includes Jente Pironet on vocals, Sarah Pepels on vocals and guitar, Gill Princes on synths, and Arno De Bock on drums.
Other acts using the name include a three-piece lounge band based in Birmingham, UK, with Rory Thompson on lead vocals and guitar, Sarah Thompson on backing vocals, and Paul Meadows on bass; an electronic band from San Diego, California; a band that takes the name after previously being known as Birds Escape; and a Norwegian group of eight young musicians with vocals, clarinet, saxophone, trombone, trumpet, keys, strings, and drums.
