Popof
Popof is a French techno DJ and producer, born Alexandre Paounov. He begins in the rave party scene and is a former member of the free-party underground collective Heretik System.
Style and work
As a solo artist, he plays events across France and in other parts of Europe, North America, Latin America, the Middle East, Asia and Australia. His work ranges across several electronic styles, with a stated preference for minimal techno and electro, alongside techno and tech house elements.
Releases and labels
He appears on labels including Turbo, Cocoon, A.F.U, Cr2 and Mistakes, as well as Form Music and Kameezol Records. In 2009, he sets up his own label, Form, to give himself more freedom for his artistic work. Releases associated with the label include tracks by Julian Jeweil, Sébastien Léger, James Harcourt, H2, Alessio Mereu, N'To, Joachim Pastor, Max Bett and Sam Paganini.
Remixes and recognition
Popof becomes widely known for his remixes, including work for Depeche Mode, the Chemical Brothers, Moby, Booka Shade, Vitalic, Tiga, Martin Solveig, Butch, Zoo Brazil and Tocadisco. His tracks are also played by artists such as Tiesto, Benny Benassi, Richie Hawtin, Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano, Sven Vath, John Digweed, Tiga, Sasha and Erol Alkan.
