Polly Scattergood

Polly Scattergood is a singer-songwriter from Wivenhoe in Essex, United Kingdom, who is based in London. Born in 1986, she works in alternative rock, indie rock and singer-songwriter forms, and her music also draws on electronic pop, experimental arrangements and dark, ethereal textures.

Career

Scattergood emerges in 2001 and signs to Mute at the age of 22. She is a graduate of the Brit School, the London performing arts academy attended by artists including Adele, Amy Winehouse and Katie Melua. Her first single, “Nitrogen Pink,” appears in 2007.

Her self-titled debut album follows two years later on Mute. It combines confessional folk-rock with shimmering electro-dance-pop and draws comparisons with Kate Bush and Björk. In 2013 she releases her second album, Arrows, which is produced by Ken Thomas, known for his work with Sigur Rós. The album adds ambient indie pop to her sound and receives attention in the UK and beyond.

After a seven-year gap, Scattergood releases In This Moment in 2020. The album reflects a more meditative approach and brings together art rock, ambient synth pop and dance-pop. During that period, she also becomes a mother for the first time.
