Poeticat
Poeticat are a UK group with roots in London and Lisbon. Formed in 2009, they perform a mix of spoken word, hip-hop and genre-crossing music built around poetry, rhythm and theatrical presentation.
Formation and style
The group begins as an acoustic act so they can play in any setting, then later adds electric instrumentation after guitarist Baj introduces effects pedals into the sound. That shift leads to a louder, more energetic set alongside the original intimate acoustic format. Their music combines honest, thought-provoking poetry with catchy, shifting arrangements.
Members and performances
The core lineup includes guitarist Baj, cajon player Victor and vocalist Ziggi. Poeticat continue to perform both their acoustic and electric sets across the UK.
Independent work
The group works in a DIY way across several parts of its output, including music, costume design and artwork. They also organise Poeticat Presents, a regular event that promotes other acts they encounter who share an interest in making something authentic and distinctive.
Recordings
Poeticat release their first EP, Bend the Walls.
