Pluto Shervington

Pluto Shervington, also known as Pluto and born Leighton Shervington, is a reggae musician, vocalist, engineer and producer from Kingston, Jamaica. His work is associated with reggae and ska, and it is often described as soca-styled reggae. He is also noted as a talented bass guitarist and for his vocal interpretations.

Career

Shervington is remembered for the single “Dat”, a song about a Rastafarian with a secret liking for pork, which achieves considerable international chart success in 1976. He later reaches the UK Singles Chart Top Twenty again with “Your Honour”, a song about a prisoner pleading innocence in court despite strong evidence against him. The record is noted for its comic style and its mix of calypso traditions with reggae elements.

Other work and performances

In 1974, Shervington engineers Little Roy’s album Tafari Earth Uprising. He moves from Jamaica to Miami, Florida, in the 1980s, but returns to perform in Jamaica periodically. He appears at the St. Kitts Music Festival in 2007, sharing the bill with Steel Pulse and Sean Paul among others.

Later years

When not touring, Shervington performs solo several times a week at the Bahama Breeze restaurant near his home.
