Playing For Change

Playing For Change is a worldwide music project and foundation created by producer Mark Johnson with Timeless Media Group, in association with Concord Music Group. It begins in 2004 and is active from 2002, and it works to bring musicians together across countries and styles.

The project centres on the idea of connecting people through music and promoting peace. Its creators travel with a mobile recording studio and film or record local performers in places including New Orleans, Moscow, Zimbabwe and Tibet, asking them to interpret the same song in their own way.

The first single associated with the project is Stand by Me. It starts with Santa Monica street performer Robert Ridley performing the song, after which musicians in other parts of the world add their own versions.
