PlayGrounded

PlayGrounded is a rock and metal group from Chania, Greece, active since 2007 and based in both Athens and Crete. It forms in Chania in 2007, when Odysseas and Orestis Zafeiriou and Michael Kotsirakis start the project. The line-up settles in 2010 with the addition of Stavros Markonis, also known for Enstro, and Vasilis Podaras, who plays with George Kontrafouris Baby Trio.

Live activity and early profile

The group plays live alongside acts including Rotting Christ and Craig Walker of Archive. Anathema later choose PlayGrounded to open their headline show in Crete.

Recording and release history

After those live appearances, the band focuses on recording its first album, Athens. The record is produced by PlayGrounded and George Alamaras, and it is described as dealing with a country and its youth in crisis, with material shaped around the tensions of modern Greece. The album combines metal and electronica, and it is mastered by Ted Jensen, whose credits include work with Muse, Dream Theater and Deftones. It is issued by Casket Music/Copro Records in the UK.
