Platinum

Platinum is the name used by several different acts in rock, metal and vocal music. One version is a vocal trio from Manchester, UK. Another is a Birmingham band formed in 2000, with Paul Tandy on lead guitar, Ben Gaughran on keyboard, Luke Houghton on rhythm guitar and Daniel Sankarsingh on drums. That group later added shared lead vocals from Paul and Ben, and recruited Ellena Sankarsingh as vocalist and percussionist, with Ben Cross on bass. The Birmingham lineup begins as a young band playing covers and original material in whatever venues it can, before taking the name Platinum from a Bon Jovi poster reference spotted in rehearsal. It goes on to record live albums, win a competition that leads to work with producer Bob Lamb, and record demos, before Paul leaves, the group rebuilds, and it splits in 2003.

There is also a barbershop quartet called Platinum, which wins the International Barbershop championship in 2000. A trash metal band of the same name forms in 2008 in Kicevo, Macedonia, with Didi on lead guitar and vocals, Lumi on rhythm guitar, Blendi on bass guitar and Migjen on drums, and it releases one song. Another Platinum is a hair metal band from Newark, New Jersey, founded in 1987 and split in 1990 after the album Iceman; its 1990 lineup is Vincent James on vocals, Don Versailles on drums and keyboards, Dean Affreat on guitar, Mike Micheals on bass guitar and Vic le Car on guitar. That group also issues the cassette releases Here to Fight and Platinum.
