Pines

Pines is a name used by several different acts. One is the lo-fi beatmaker Nathaniel Pines, whose work is associated with boom bap, chillwave, downtempo, hip hop, instrumental and instrumental hip hop. Another is an indie-electronic solo project from Washington, DC, identified with Davis Connors, who is from Washington, DC and lives in Chicago. A third is a rock band from Chicago, Illinois formed by John R. Niles, Tony De Perio and Jason Kyrouac, with John later joining after the other two begin developing songs together; the group spends two years writing and reworking material before releasing its first EP on Grey Flight Records. The band’s sound centres on John’s bass, Tony’s changing riffs and Jason’s drumming. A fourth Pines is a German-based band on Zeitgeister Records that releases the album Five Letters.

Another artist with the name is Zachary Corsa of Burlington, North Carolina, who performs solo experi-folk and is also associated with Lost Trail. The different acts using the name span electronic, ambient, drone and rock-related styles, and the name appears in both solo and group contexts.
