Pimpsoul is the project of Steve Jeffery, a British ghetto funk producer. He is formerly known as Darftphunk.
Pimpsoul develops as a funk-based act with live and DJ formats. The project is described as a five-piece funk group made up of two DJs, a vocalist, an MC and a saxophonist, with the members collectively bringing more than forty years of experience in music. The act works with ghetto funk, nu funk and avant-breaks, and appears with both DJ sets and live performances.
Releases and labels
Pimpsoul releases music on Bombstrikes, Splank, Ground Level and Breakin Even. The debut single, The One, receives radio support and plays from DJs including A-Skillz, Beat Vandals, Mooqee and Krafty Kuts, and is played at UK festivals during the summer of 2009. It also receives airplay on Ali B’s Kiss FM show. Another release, Noggins Groove, appears on Ground Level and features vocals from Claire G. Pimpsoul also issues a remix of Martin Clancy & The Witness Protection Programme’s Flat Foot, and an EP is set to appear on Bombstrikes.
