Picture Parlour

Picture Parlour is an indie rock band formed in 2020 and based in Liverpool, United Kingdom. The group centres on Katherine Parlour and Ella Risi and also includes Joey Django, Michael Nash, Sian Lynch and, in earlier line-ups, Kitty Fitz. The band is active in the UK indie rock scene and is associated with female vocals and guitar-led rock.

Formation and lineup

The band forms in Manchester around Katherine Parlour, who sings and plays guitar, and Ella Risi, who plays guitar. Their lineup includes Joey Django on rhythm guitar and bass, Michael Nash on drums, and Sian Lynch. Kitty Fitz also appears in the group’s lineup on bass and rhythm guitar. Although the band originates in Manchester in its formation story, its official origin is Liverpool.

Early performances and releases

Picture Parlour plays its debut show in December 2022 at The Windmill in Brixton and then becomes a regular live act there. Its first single, “Norwegian Wood”, is released through Buzzcity, followed by “Judgement Day”. “Norwegian Wood” is recorded at RAK Studio 2 with Steph Marziano and mixed by Alan Moulder. The song is written by Parlour alone and takes inspiration from Haruki Murakami’s novel Norwegian Wood as well as its connection to the Beatles song of the same name.
