Philippa Hanna
Philippa Hanna is a singer-songwriter from Sheffield, United Kingdom, working in pop and contemporary Christian music. She is active as a solo vocalist and is known for a style that combines acoustic grooves, energetic rhythms and prominent vocal lines.
Career
Hanna records and performs as a solo artist. Her debut album, Watching Me, is recorded at Steelworks Studio in Sheffield with producer Andy Baker. The album receives early attention from CDBaby, which places it at the top of its recommended chart for Contemporary Christian music and in the top three for Solo Female Artists.
Her work also includes a range of house-music collaborations and international performances. She records vocals for artists including Emma Bunton, S Club and Graham Kendrick. She also supports Graham Kendrick in 2006 after appearing with him on BBC1’s Stranger In A Manger.
Background and collaborations
Hanna’s family has several links to well-known British acts: her cousins Richard and Danny Macnamara are members of Embrace, and her brother Stuart Zender is the former bassist of Jamiroquai. Producer Zarc Porter describes her as one of the most distinctive vocalists around.
Live work
She performs in both intimate acoustic settings and larger concert venues. She returns to Sheffield’s The Plug supporting Amy MacDonald, and also supports Chris Tomlin, appears at New Wine and performs at the Flevo festival in the Netherlands.
