Philip Dizack is a jazz trumpeter from Milwaukee, United States. He moves to New York City in 2003 and studies at the Manhattan School of Music on a full tuition scholarship.
Career
DownBeat Magazine names Dizack as one of twenty-five “Trumpet Players for the Future.” In 2004, he wins third place in the International Trumpet Guild Jazz Competition, receives the John Coltrane Scholarship, and takes first place in the National Trumpet Competition in 2005. He is also the youngest winner of the Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Competition in 2005, and in 2007 he competes as the youngest semifinalist in the Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition.
Recordings and work as a leader
Dizack releases his debut album as a leader, Beyond a Dream, on Fresh Sound Records. He later tours Spain with that band and records the DVD Live in Barcelona - Featuring Greg Tardy.
Performing and collaborations
He is a regular member of Bobby Watson’s Sextet Live and Learn, Eddie Palmieri’s salsa and Latin jazz bands, and Tim Warfield’s quintet. He also performs and records with Bobby Watson, Eddie Palmieri, Tim Warfield, Greg Tardy, Aaron Goldberg, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Nicholas Payton, and others.
