Electronic and pop-related projects

One Phantom is a project formed in January 2012 by singer and songwriter Hanna Toivonen and producer, sound designer and DJ Tommi Koskinen. That version grows out of a shared interest in alternative electronic music, sustainable urban art and cross-disciplinary approaches to making music.

Another Phantom is a London-based duo made up of Elsie Martins and Jonny Martin. Martins handles vocals, guitar, organ, Korg, beats, pulses, noises and echoes, while Martin plays bass and ebow bass and works with beats, rhythms, noises and samples. This duo releases Great Pretender and the album Smoke & Mirrors. Phantom is also used by Dutch DJ Randy Joubert, better known as Randy Katana, and by Tom Stuart as a nom de plume for releases built around 8-bit textures and 1980s-style synths.

Metal and hardcore acts

The name is also used by several metal bands. One Phantom is a heavy metal and power metal band from New York, formed in 1985. Another is a heavy metal band from Poland. There is also a German black metal band that releases a self-titled 7-inch on Deathstrike Records in 2009, and a Danish black metal band formed in 2005 whose first album, Incendiary Serum, appears in 2013 on I, Voidhanger Records.

A separate Phantom is a heavy metal band from Toronto, formed in January 2012 by former Ash Lee Blade members D.D. Murley, Necro Hippie and J.J. Blade. Murley handles vocals and guitars, Necro Hippie plays bass, and J.J. Blade contributes drums and vocals. This Toronto band plays traditional heavy metal in the style of Maiden, Priest and Dio, shaped by the power-trio format.

Other acts include an old school hardcore band from Richmond, a hardcore punk band from New Jersey, a Mexican thrash and speed metal band, and an extreme raw black metal band associated with The Satan Records.
